Departmental Associations

The departmental associations conduct various programmes to help the overall development of the students. Publication of news clips, seminars on various topics related to their branches, industrial visits, industry-institute interaction etc, were under-taken by all the Departmental Associations to make the students wholesome professionals.

The Civil Engineering Association conducted a seminar on “Low Cost Building” by Sri. Yugin Pandhala (Head of Civi Engineering Dept., TKM Engineering College, Kollam). The Builders Assn., Kerala, conducted a seminar for the final year students five of our students attended the attended a workshop conducted by the Builders Assn., Kerala on 14-06-2005. The department conducts concrete cube tests, mix design, field surveys and other tests for construction firms in and around Alappuzha. All the final year students were given industrial experience as part of their project work. The Civil Engg Dept. contributes remarkably to the design and execution .of construction works in the campus.

Seminars on Computer Hardware Maintenance by ACCEL, E-CAD by CAD Centre, “How to Face an Interview”, by Sri. Josekatty, PLC Programming by Sri. Sugathan, a former student of Carmel, etc. were conducted by the Electrical Engineering Association. The industrial visits to 110 KV substation, Traction Division, Punnapra, Milma Dairy Products and the Industry Institute Interaction during the Onam and Xmas holidays were some of the activities by the associations.

The Electronics Dept. under the auspices of the Electronics Association undertook an industrial visit to Lekshmi Electrotech, the manufacturers of HYCON UPS and Inverters in Kalamasserry. Mini projects are being worked out by the students, in addition to the main project. One more Electronics lab and a PLC lab were set up to comply with the new syllabus.

The Computer Dept. went on an educational tour to Spices Board, Cochin to learn the Futures Trading Software. The department also conducted seminars on IC3, Advanced Networking and ASP net. An advanced networking lab with 30 systems and a broadband connection from the Asianet dataline for internet was setup and made available to the students and members of the staff free of cost. An EDP, sponsored by State Bank of Travancore was conducted on 27th and 28th of February, 2006.
An Auto-Electric lab and Auto Work Shop were commissioned in the Automobile Dept. A seminar and quiz programme on Motor Vehicles Rule and Road Safety by the officers from the Motor Vehicle Dept. was conducted under the auspices of the Automobile Association in association with Shani Motor Driving School. Ten students drawn from all the branches along with Sri.A.S.Radhakrishna Pillai, HOD Automobile, attended a one day workshop on Road Safety arranged by the Lions Club of Alappuzha in collaboration with NATPAC, Thiruvananthapuram. It is planned to conduct a one month compulsory Industrial Training Programme in Auto Industries/Garages during summer vacation.
